Day One - West Kelowna to Sandpoint Idaho
This is actually the second longest day's ride of our entire trip. We got up early and were on the road by 7:30.
The first part of the ride down to Osoyoos was the most beautiful part of the day. We had planned a breakfast at JoJo's on the Main Street and that's where we hit the first glitch of the day!
Not really a problem, there were other breakfast spots although they didn't quite measure up.
Next the ride up and over Anarchist Mountain through Rock Creek to Midway. The second most beautiful part of today's trip.
There we crossed the border and after some interesting questions from a pretty decent border guard we were through into the States.
After that we rode through the very empty eastern part of Washington. People do live there but it appears they don't need towns, stores, gas stations, rest stops - basically nothing! After running pretty low on gas we hit a shopping metropolis and our second glitch - a washout that had us take a detour miles down a dirt road on well over 1,000lbs of bike!
We never did find anything else until we were so close to Sandpoint that it wasn't worth it to stop. We just combined lunch into dinner.
Sandpoint is a nice town but I had forgotten that seemingly no truck in Idaho bothers with a muffler. Things are a bit loud in the street outside.
We went for a walk and it didn't take long to hit our stride.
We had a great dinner downtown and are now relaxing! Hit a big problem with writing the blog so I am actually trying a different program here to see if I can make it work. If you can read this then it's working.
Missoula tomorrow.
Fantastic update LZB and despite a few glitches, sounds like a good time is had by all!👍 Looking forward to tomorrow's report.
ReplyDeleteThat is just crazy! And what is crazier is the winery at the end of the day! You need to remember all these things Julian when you do the return trip in a month. Hugs to you both and have a good sleep and a glitch free day tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteYou didn't stop for sausage rolls in Rock Creek???
ReplyDeleteWe looked, but we were on a roll (pun intended!)
